We remember those who served and died for our country – Remembrance in Stockport

This year, Remembrance will be commemorated in different ways than usual in Stockport, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

We’re proud of our Armed Forces – past and present – here in Stockport. We want to make sure that we do all we can, so individuals and communities are able to give their thanks to all who served and died for our country, and honour those veterans and actively serving members of the armed services.

We warmly welcome you to this online book of remembrance – you can submit a message and record memories or view other entries submitted below.

Remembering with love and respect my grandfather Captain Manuel Thomas Perez Merchant Navy food convoys aged 26 yrs 1914-18. He never got to meet my mother his baby daughter.
Also his youngest brother Lewis Harold Perez 17 years killed Paschendale Cold Stream Guards. His body too was never found.
Four brothers went to war and only two came back.

I am not from Stockport originally. However, my Uncle Harry served in Burma in World War II. He survived but suffered from Malaria for the rest of his life and he never talked about the war. I also had another uncle, Bernard, who was blown to bits in a tank. He left behind a widow and very young son. My Aunty Claire never got over it and never re-married. Also, please can everyone remember the thousands and thousands of animals who died during two world wars. They also made the ultimate sacrifice and they had no choice in the matter.
